Organic Kukicha is a traditional Japanese roasted twig tea that is produced through multiple natural processing steps. After the twigs are pruned from the tea shrub, they are steamed then cooled, rubbed then dried, aged then cut, and finally, they are gently roasted and packed. In Japan, kukicha tea is traditionally used for beneficial effects on digestion, and because the caffeine in the tea shrub in concentrated mainly in the leaves, twig tea contains very little caffeine. Kukicha is also a component of many Japanese macrobiotic tonic preparations, for example in combination with soy sauce, umeboshi (pickled plums) or ume (Japanese plum) extract. Tea is cultivated throughout Asia and each estate produces tea with its own unique characteristics. Organic Kukicha is pleasantly rich, nutty and roasted; far less astringent than green tea. Serve with a lemon, if desired.
