Freshen Up Your Beard With These 4 Simple Solutions

Freshen Up Your Beard With These 4 Simple Solutions

November 27, 2019

Now that No Shave November is coming to a close, you’ve probably experienced some common beard care issues. Despite their persistence, dry skin, “beardruff,” and unruly styles can actually be tackled with ease.  As you embrace a new appreciation for the craft of men’s grooming and facial hair care, you might want to consider rethinking the products you’re using on a daily basis. We’ve rounded up a few simple solves for common beard care blunders to give you a fresh style in no time.

The Essentials

Whether you’re a men’s grooming expert or don’t know a beard oil from a balm, there are a few essential tools everyone needs. Using a brush or comb will help train your facial hair to grow downward, help loosen dandruff or any flakiness, and will distribute natural oils more evenly throughout your facial hair. These tools will help your products work even better and work for all skin and hair types. Our Beard + Mustache Comb is a travel-friendly styling assistant that can be used on hair, beards, or mustaches. If you’re interested in a brush, the Q Brothers Beard Brush is a German-made option featuring boar bristles that promote softness and shine.

Dry Skin

Dry, flaky skin is especially common during the winter months. Combat dreaded dandruff with an exfoliating facial scrub. Our favorite from Proraso has a fresh, rosemary and mint scent. It’s made with finely ground almond and hazelnut shells that are gentle enough to remove dry patches, impurities, and dead skin cells without causing irritation. You can even use it daily. Follow that up with our signature Q Brothers Beard Oil. This blend of argan, grapeseed, jojoba, and almond oils will nourish your skin and beard, preventing itchy, dry patches. Apply a drop or two daily and brush it through to treat the skin underneath too.

Sensitive Skin

Finding products that don’t irritate sensitive skin isn’t always easy. We love Bluebeards Original’s unscented products because they’re made without irritating fragrance. The Beard Wash is made with vitamin E and aloe to soothe, protect, and fight frizz. It also enhances the natural shine of your facial hair. The Beard Saver is a unique hybrid between a leave-in conditioner and a cream. Shea butter and avocado oil add moisture and encourage hair growth. Running a dab of this through your beard will help to tame any unruly hairs.

Coarse Hair

Maintaining a well-coiffed look is totally achievable, even if you have coarse hair. Tabula Rasa’s Abraka Barber Soap is vegan and made without detergents. The star ingredients in this German-made soap include beer, coconut oil, avocado oil, sweet almond oil, and mango seed butter. It’s compact in size and travel-friendly. Repair and replenish facial hair with Sweet Comb Chicago’s Beeswax Beard Conditioner. It’s a no-rinse, small-batch conditioner made with aloe vera, honey, soybean oil and other natural ingredients that help to tame flyaways and soothe the skin.
