This fragrance reprises the original orris formula, using Florentine iris, known for its rarity and expense, costing three times more than gold bullion. An opulent affair, Shem El Nessim begins gradually with shimmering, evasive top notes of citrus. Just as the tart, refreshing sounds of bergamot and neroli begin to sound, geranium sweeps into view and converts this initial lively energy into something more subtle. A flower of endless possibility, geranium grows infinitely more spicy as jasmine and rose emerge. Together these three blooms are alternately satin smooth, sweet, bright, and piquant. Yet their clamorous convention is mere fodder for the fire. When Florentine iris emerges in the heart of Shem-El-Nessim, all is still. Iris unfurls, like an unexpected eclipse of the sun, shrouding everything with a cool, shimmering, powder soft elegance. Patchouli and sandalwood subtly underscore the extraordinary sensuality of this purple flower, while vanilla, heliotrope, and cedar echo its incomparable texture. Originally created in 1906, this rich, luxurious creation typifies the L'Origan style with its warm, soft, powdery, floral aspect. A scent which personifies the Edwardian era in which femininity was f?ted. Like moonlight on the nile, Shem-El-Nessim captures our heart and imagination.
