Original Ricola is produced today almost exactly as it was in the 1930's when Emil Richterich, owner of a Swiss confectionery shop in the village of Laufen, first developed the recipe. This is why Original Ricola has a rough cube shape, while all other Ricola flavors are made on newer, more modern machines that produce a smooth oval shape. This original recipe launched Ricola, with a simple philosophy of producing natural, herbal products that are both beneficial and good tasting.
