Collection: Nubian Heritage
Richelieu Dennis and Nyema Tubman went from selling soaps on a Harlem sidewalk to operating a business including four retail stores and a state of the art manufacturing facility. A mixture of tenacity, determination and perseverance helped the two friends turn adversity into a profitable business. In 1991, a civil war in their homeland Liberia had destroyed most of the family's personal possessions. Dennis and Tubman immigrated to the United States but the situation was not much brighter as they found themselves suddenly unemployed. Dennis decided to use his years of helping his grandmother create soaps, to create premium products to under served and overlooked communities. Nubian Heritage purchases ingredients directly from cooperatives and indigenous farmers in Africa, helping to improve the standard of living for those suppliers.
