Ole, We Say!
Devante Valereo was raised in a dusty Spanish village on the Balearic Sea. He fondly recalled going to the bullfights with his father, an ex-picador, and credited those experiences with inspiring his popular novella, Bull's Blood. The book's lurid tale of seduction garnered obscenity charges against him. A ban on the sale of his works persisted for a number of years. A fixture in Barcelona, writing in the cafes & bars into the night, Valereo disappeared as a fugitive in 1967 after a highly publicized bar scuffle. ?A man who has killed,? he wrote in Bull's Blood, ?is a man who knows passion.?Patchouli smolders seductively, a green flash of red fabric, flourished in the blink of an eye. This blood colored flag invites action, and after patchouli's initial invitation, the drama in the fragrance never ceases, nor disappoints. Rose emerges quickly after patchouli's wave, a willing participant. Gorgeous but thorny, this bloom is not to be messed with. Though her petals may look satin-soft their edges are as sharp as razors and her prickly stem is a ladder that cannot be climbed without paying the price--in blood. Costus root's bitter, unctuous fragrance is a balm after rose's sweet revenge. Tobacco is the next contender, bold enough to take up patchouli's loaded welcome. Shimmering with a honeyed, aged countenance, tobacco looks weathered enough to take on any challenge but a black cloud of dense animalic musk descends, and in an instant tobacco is ablaze, its rum-like richness evaporating into the cold night air. Only the faintest shadow of tobacco remains, charred and ashen, a silvery outline that floats around the periphery of black musk, highlighting this substance's superhuman strength. Bull's blood is the only stuff that can withstand patchouli's challenge; thickly liquid, iron rich and midnight dark, bull's blood pierces the shadow of patchouli's flicked cape, to lift and hurl the enigmatic toreador high into the midnight sky. Unabashedly animalic and with a stamina to match, Bull's Blood is a wild ride that's not for the faint of heart. One spray, and you're ready to run. When to wear: This is a powerful scent for someone who knows what they want. Bull's Blood is for those nights when you want to take the bull by the horns. Notes: Patchouli, Rose, Costus Root, Tobacco, Black Musk, Bull's Blood.
