Make Your Favorite Cat Lover Purr
Katjes yes, yes, yes! Many people recognize the melody when they read or hold Katjes. It all started in 1910 with a licorice recipe from Sicily. Xaver Fassin brought it back from the island, and his son Klaus Fassin used it to produce little licorice kittens, the "Katjes Kinder." Katjes means "little kitten" in Dutch, and that's why Katjes's oldest product still has this distinctive cat shape.
What a stroke of luck! To this day, the Katjes Kinder, made from spicy hard licorice, are among the most popular products in the Katjes vegan candy family. This deliciously cute candy was a trendsetter even back then. Because the Katjes Kinder have always been made without animal gelatin they and have always been 100% vegan licorice .
