Essentially, this is enigmatic, Saharan sophistication bottled. Based primarily on the fragrance ritual of wusulan. Practiced by generations of Malian women, skin and hair are scented by burning concentrated incense in which the body (and mind) steep. An evocation of the ancient roots of perfumery, Timbuktu sits on skin as lightly as its inspiring ritual implies. Through this gauzy coating, tangy green mango peeps, a crisply sweet, slightly lactic and refreshingly sour element. Creamy karo-karounde flower picks up on the satiny aspects of mango and expands this texture, its sweet, oozing richness constituting the solid heartland of this scent. Still, spice-like pink pepper keeps this conversation light with its fruity piquancy while cardamom's cooler heat foreshadows the earthy sparkle of vetiver. Papyrus wood burns, incense floats, and patchouli sizzles, cloaking skin in a sensual, airy sense of mystery.
