High in Vitamin C
Birch (Betula verricosa, syn. Betula pendula) or Silver Birch is an elegant, deciduous tree with simple opposing leaves and delicate white bark that peels off in layered sections. It proliferates in temperate climates throughout the northern hemisphere, and has long been appreciated by humans for its beauty and usefulness. The name Birch likely derives from the ancient Sanskrit word, ‘Bhurga’ meaning, ‘bark used for writing on’. The mild and tannic, slightly bitter leaves contain vitamin C and salicylates, perfect for steeping into a nutritious tea or infusing in oil for a soothing joint rub.
Common names: silver birch, warty birch, European white birch, or East Asian white birch
